Artistry by Arlette
Arlette is a visual artist who creates sculptures and paintings that express deep
human emotions and collective experiences.
From a young age, she found refuge in drawing and crafting, a way to create her own safe place and forget the world around her for a while.
What started as an intuitive way of expression, grew into a conscious
search for connection and meaning. During her studies in Creative Arts Therapy
at the Wervel in 2005, Arlette discovered how getting lost in colors and working with
visual materials allowed her to gain a deeper understanding of herself.
The creative process offered her a safe space to find words for what was missing in her childhood and for the experiences that shaped her life. And how these experiences could transform into an inner compass that shows others the way to the creative source deep within themselves.
Her work is characterized by great sensitivity and an exploration of themes such as universal human suffering, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), intergenerational and collective trauma and
the power of recovery, wholeness. The connection with the greater whole,
the growth of consciousness and making what is invisible to the eye experienceable through art are an important source of inspiration for her.
Her hands express what the mind does not yet know. Her sculptures and paintings invite softening, turning inward and
contemplation, and often touch a deeper layer in the viewer. Arlette hopes that her
images and poems invite the viewer to reflect, feel and get in touch with their own inner world, to acknowledge their own wounds and offer comfort.
Future plans
In addition to her work as a self-taught visual artist, Arlette, as a therapist and
expert by experience in the consequences of early trauma, would like to set up a center for trauma and recovery, in which art plays a healing and connecting role. She wants to
create a safe place where people can find their own creative voice and creative
power and explore the path to restoring connection with themselves and others
through art.
Arlette:
To make this center possible, it is important that I first fully recover
from Lyme disease, a multisystem disease that has severely limited my life for 15 years
and was discovered far too late. Would you like to help me realize this dream?
On the next page I will share more about my story, my treatment and how you can
contribute to my recovery. As a token of my appreciation, I would like to give you something back. Let’s heal together!
